SOMERSET cricket legend Marcus Trescothick said it will be an honour to carry the Olympic Torch through his home town next week.

The 36-year-old is currently recovering from ankle surgery but will gamely hobble a 200-metre stretch of Wellington Road, in Taunton, from Somerset College, with torch in hand.

He told the County Gazette: “It is going to be something very different and I don't really know what to expect.

“It is an honour to do it especially in my home town of Taunton in front of my friends and family.”

Trescothick’s cricket career has seen him represent the county for over 12 years and feature for England on the international circuit where he played 76 Test matches.

But the Cidermen’s skipper said carrying the Olympic Torch on Monday will be a totally unique experience for him.

He said: “I have been lucky enough to compete on the big stage in cricket but this will be something else.

“It is fantastic for the town and hopefully lots of people line the streets.”
