ROBERT Wiseman Dairies has responded to last night's blockade of its milk processing plant outside Bridgwater .

Several hundred farmers descended on the dairy, near junction 24 of the M5, in protest at the lowering of the price paid to dairy farmers for their milk.

A spokesman for Robert Wiseman Dairies said this morning: “We fully understand the strength of feeling amongst dairy producers and continue to engage with those with an interest in the dairy supply chain.

“It is important to stress we are not in a position to fund a milk price at the level it was prior to the global collapse in the value of cream.

“It is our hope that the market for liquid milk and bulk cream which is at the core of this issue will quickly find a balance which will allow us to return improved prices to farmers.”

So, when the global cream price was high did the processors pass on this to the farmers? Thought not.

Surely the answer is simple, tell the supermarkets they must pay the going rate for milk, everybody else has to the pay the price.

The co-op has said they will pay the farmers the right price for their milk, so lets all buy from them and leave asda morrisons etc. with loads of unsold milk. The power of the consumer!
