Woman assaulted in Taunton

A 64-YEAR-old woman has been hospitalised after a seemingly unprovoked attack near Taunton yesterday (July 28).

The woman, whose name has not been released, was walking along the tow path of the Taunton and Bridgwater canal between Bathpool and Creech St Michael when the attack happened just after 2pm.

She received injuries to her neck and leg and was taken to Musgrove Park Hospital.

Police have described the suspect as a white man, 5ft 9ins tall, of slim build, with a neatly kept dark brown beard, possibly wearing glasses and wearing a blue or yellow coloured jacket or jumper with a hood. He was also wearing long dark coloured trousers or jeans. His clothing is described as odd for the hot weather conditions.

Police would like to hear from anyone who was near the canal in the Bathpool and Creech St Michael areas yesterday afternoon who may have seen the man or recognises him from his description.

Anyone able to help the police enquiries is asked to contact Taunton CID on
the force number 101.

Women are reminded to be vigilant and be aware of their own personal safety and try to avoid secluded and quiet areas.

What are the chances that he is a repeat offender who appears in the court news on a regular basis has received persistently wishy-washy penalties from the magistrate's court? Cannot help but wonder if the public are being adequately protected when I see some of the names occurring over and over again....hmmm..
