INTERNATIONAL attention is being focused on West Somerset as the county aims to becomes recognised as a 'leading world tourism destination'.

The Somerset Tourism Association will be working with UK Inbound and Clarks Village to bring some domestic and international tour operators and journalists to the county to get to know the area over the next few months.

The aim of these six 'familiarisation trips' to some of the county's most famous landmarks, attractions and key accommodation providers is to help market Somerset as a tourism hot spot.

West Somerset Railway is due to play host to some of the visitors, with details to be confirmed shortly.

Bob Smart, chairman of the Somerset Tourism Association, said: “Journalists and travel organisers from all over the world are descending on Somerset in record numbers this year, and all the tourism providers are ready to give them a warm welcome.

“Thanks to our partners who are collaborating in these arrangements, Somerset is being recognised as a leading world tourism destination - and there couldn't be a better choice.”
