DRIVERS and owners of large farm vehicles are being warned to be vigilant after a spate of diesel thefts around Bridgwater.

Two of the thefts occurred over the weekend of July 28 in Britannia Lanes and Showground Road, Huntworth and police are seeking witnesses.

PCSO Rebecca Riley said: “We are encouraging HGV drivers particularly to take some simple crime prevention measures to minimise the risk of falling victim to opportunist diesel thieves.

“We will also be conducting high visibility and targeted patrols.”

Drivers are advised to park HGVs with fuel tanks facing CCTV camera's, or in well lit areas and wherever possible to park in secure yards.

Farmers are asked to avoid putting diesel storage tanks in isolated areas or to consider fencing or planting to disguise the tank.

A mobile bowser could also be used to store diesel to be kept in a secure barn when not in use.

People can consider diesel dye to make diesel more easily identifiable and less attractive to thieves.

Call police on 101 or 999 in an emergency, or report it online at www.avonandsomerset.police.uk. Or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
