Canine Dawson joins Richard Huish

STUDENTS at Richard Huish College, Taunton, have raised £5,335.70 to buy a Canine Partner assistance dog, Dawson.

The charity will train Dawson to help people with disabilities enjoy greater independence and a better quality of life.

Health and social care teacher Liz Truman looked after the goldendoodle puppy while funds were raised for the initial training of Dawson.

The cash was raised from events such as auctions, magic shows, a fashion show and a student running the Taunton half-marathon.

The dog will go off for advanced training at the end of the summer.

A college spokesman said: “Staff and students will miss seeing him around college greatly, but know that he’ll make a wonderful partner for someone who will really needs and appreciates him.”

Liz Truman said: “Thank you to everybody who has helped us sponsor a second puppy.

“Our first charity-funded puppy, Pilot, continues to be a brilliant guide dog in Barry and hopefully Dawson will be equally brilliant as a canine partner.”
