A ROCKET launch got the new school year off to a stellar start at Staplegrove Primary School in Taunton.

Key Stage Two pupils became NASA space engineers for a day as part of classes for their new space topic.

They were faced with the challenge of finding a way to bring their astronaut, Eggward, safely back to earth.

Teacher Rachel Annett said: “The children loved it – they really enjoyed the hands-on work outside the classroom.

“Unfortunately, none of the astronauts made it home safely, but the children are planning further investigations in the future as part of their space topic for the term.”
