STUDENTS are being prepared for life beyond the classroom at a cookery school opened by celebrity chef Michael Caines.
He was impressed by savouries and canapés prepared by students in the facility at King’s College, Taunton, during the ceremony on Tuesday (September 18).
He said: “Life skills aren’t just about education – it’s also about what they need when they go beyond school – when they go to university those skills are going to be there for them.
“For me, food’s a passion that became a career – it’s fun and very engaging.”
Headmaster Richard Biggs said King’s was teaching extra-curricular activities such as cookery, ironing and sewing.
“More and more we ought to be preparing our children for the rigours of life beyond schools,” said Mr Biggs.
“It goes beyond mere survival, and cooking and sharing good food is what marks us out as civilised people.
“Cooking is fun and pleasurable.”
