Watchet Sea Scouts pass muster

A SEA scout group has celebrated its 20th successful inspection by the Royal Navy.
The First Watchet Sea Scouts have retained Royal Navy status following their Admiralty inspection.
Admiralty-recognised groups, as well as carrying out normal scout activities, specialise in water activities and are inspected every 18 months to ensure high standards are maintained.
Being recognised allows the scout group to use Royal Navy facilities such as HMS Bristol in Portsmouth and take part with other groups in activities the Admiralty organises.
The First Watchet Sea Scouts are one of only 103 Admiralty-recognised scout groups in the UK.
Lieutenant Commander Karen Cahill inspected the group on The Esplanade as a large crowd of family, friends and visitors watched.
The Lieutenant Commander presented gold awards to scouts Maddie Bruce and Lawrence Roberts, the highest award that can be achieved in the scout section.
Explorer scout George Day was awarded the Harold and Hilda Strong Trophy for watercraft achievement for his personal development in water activities and help with running activities for younger group members.
Dave Leader was presented with a friendship badge from the scout group for his assistance with water activities and helping to build the new changing facilities.
