Taunton Foodbank needs your help
A GROUP set up to ensure that needy people get food is appealing for more volunteers.
Taunton Foodbank has handed out over 120 food parcels since being set up in July.
The gifts go to anyone in emergency circumstances who has received a voucher from a health worker, social worker, staff in education or someone who knows there is a need.
Keith Whittaker, of Taunton Foodbank, said: “People receive the food parcels because of a sudden change in their situations – people who haven’t been able to pay for food because of a serious illness and don’t have enough income to support themselves, not been able to replace food because their freezer broke, or because of an unexpected change in benefit payments.
“The food parcel helps people get back on track and gives time for a longer term solution to be found.”
“Many recipients are single people, but we’re also helping families with children, and the elderly.
“We expect the need to grow as winter draws near.”
The Foodbank needs tins of vegetables, sponge pudding, beans, jars of coffee, cartons of juice and food for vegetarians.
You can donate food at Sainsbury’s Hankridge Farm on Saturday, October 27, from 9am and 4pm, the Foodbank at the United Reformed Church, Paul Street, on Tuesdays from 2pm to 4pm or Fridays, noon to 2pm; and Taunton Deane MP Jeremy Browne’s offices during office hours.
The Foodbank is looking for a secretary, web editor and people to help in its warehouse – call 07761-624216 or email info@taunton.foodbank.org.uk
