Minehead WI

THE President, Norma Austin, welcomed all the members to Minehead WI’s 94th birthday meeting.

The annual Birthday Cups were presented with the Competition Cup being won by Norma Austin and the Berkeley Cup, for the member who has gone the extra mile for the WI, awarded to Barbara Hughes.

Judy Goodall and Phyllis Crowther were thanked for the beautiful posies they had made for ladies who celebrate their birthdays in February. Members’ voting forms for the WI 2017 Resolution have now been sent to County Office.

Norma read out a lovely letter that was received from the YMCA thanking the group for the Christmas shoeboxes.

Members were invited to attend the Spring Roadshow in Trull in March.
The Book Club will be meeting in February to discuss ‘Murder on a Summer’s Day’. The Luncheon Club enjoyed a very good meal at The Hairy Dog in January, and a meal at The Brewer’s Fayre is planned for February.

The skittles meeting will be at The Britannia in Alcombe.

The Amblers had a very muddy but enjoyable walk in Snowdrop Valley and another walk is planned for later in the month.

After tea and delicious birthday cakes there was a talk on ‘How Butlins Has Grown’ by Billy Ferris. With Butlins being such a significant part of Minehead life, it was interesting to hear the story of its development and of the changes it has undergone to be what it is today, as well as how it works closely with the local community.

The competition for a Gloucestershire item was won by Fiona Windle with Lyn Edwards second and Pauline Davis and Norma Austin equal third.
The raffle was drawn and Norma ended the meeting with some funny stories.
