Royal British Legion Somerset and City of Bristol

THE Royal British Legion Somerset and City of Bristol held their Annual County Conference at Writhlington School, Radstock.

This year’s Guest of Honour was the Deputy Lord Lieutenant of Somerset, Colonel David Lowe, OBE DL. Also present was the new National Chairman of the Royal British Legion Mr Terry Whittles, and the County President, Commodore Bob Mansergh, OBE MA. There were other official guests.

The Royal British Legion Standards from across the county were paraded by the Standard Bearer’s, including the Women’s Section at the beginning of the conference.

Each year at the conference the Legion sends and receives a loyal message to and from Her Majesty the Queen, Patron of the Royal British Legion. The message was read to the conference by the County Chairman, Major (retired) Robert McDonald.

Also at conference, were the Silver Buglers, from the Rifles Cadets. Each year conference presents “The Buglers Sword” to the Best Cadet bugler. This year it was presented to the L/Cpl Steve Jackson, the Commanding Officers Bugler.

After the main business of the day had been completed, numerous other awards were made to branches in Somerset for all that they do, and have achieved throughout the year.

All of this will be overseen by the Somerset County President, Commodore Bob Mansergh, OBE MA.

A big thank you has to be said to the Head Teacher, and the school, for all of their help and assistance, without which the Legion could not hold their conference.

Throughout conference all of the attendees were ably assisted by the members of the Writhlington School ACF, who worked tirelessly giving help and assistance where needed, thanks must go to all of them and their officers.
