FRANCES Presswell, associate head teacher at Ladymead Community School in Taunton, has been awarded the national award ‘Developing Leader of the Year’ award.

The award, presented by the Specialist Schools and Academy Trust is for her participation and excellence in the ‘Developing Leaders Programme’.

Frances has planned and implemented a new competency curriculum at Ladymead that ensures pupils develop a range of skills and competencies that support their learning.

Head teacher, Mark Trusson said “We are all proud of Frances. She has been instrumental in a number of developments at Ladymead and deserves this outstanding recognition.”

The school says the course has proved successful, with other teachers visiting Ladymead to see it in practice.

Frances will receive her award at the Specialist Schools and Academies Conference in late November, sharing the stage with Minister Ed Balls.

She will also present at the conference on her educational visit to India in the summer of 2009.
