ALMOST a quarter of household waste generated in the Taunton and Wellington area in 2006-07 was recycled.
Figures show that Taunton Deane was the 11th best local authority in the South-West out of 45, with a total of 8,671 tonnes or 24% saved from landfill.
West Somerset recycled 3,313 tonnes, equating to 22.1%.

Top of the table was Purbeck, with 30.3% recycled, followed by Exeter on 29.2% and Bournemouth on 29.1%.
The worst offender for not recycling was the Isles of Scilly, with just 9.2%.
