RUNNERS braved blazing heat to take part in the first Curry Mallet 10K off road race and fun run.

The event, in aid of Curry Mallet Primary School, was organised by Brett Rogers and the school's parent, teacher and friends association, attracted more than 75 runners.

The two-kilometre fur Run for the children was successful, with all finishers picking up a medal The course of the 10-kilometre race was mainly off-road through fields around Curry Mallet and passed the school where the children had made a banner thanking all the runners for supporting the race.

School head teacher Alison Whitman said: "The school and the PTFA would like to thank all those who helped to organise the race and to make it such a great success.

"It was enjoyed by all, even though it was the hottest day of the year - many congratulations to everyone who completed the distance!"

The event was sponsored by Greenshutters Nurseries and Plant Centre.
