Nynehead
Parish council: The annual parish meeting was held on May 12 before the monthly parish council meeting. Unfortunately only 12 electors attended so it was agreed to review again the format of the meeting. Reports received showed however that Nynehead continues to thrive and is looking forward to an eventful summer.
JULIAN Comrie FRPS presented the Taunton Camera Club's print folio at this weeks meeting, his comments were, as always, helpful and kind, and were enjoyed by folio members and non folio members alike. Dave Basford was the overall winner with Vic Crease the runner up. Julian then talked about the RPS Travel Group and showed us their 2008 competition, which was full of lovely images from this well travelled group. Next week is the last official meeting of the Camera Club season with the end of year competition of slides and prints. There will be an exhibition of the Clubs work in the Library from the August 4-16, and club outings have been arranged throughout the summer.
IN a busy month for the Taunton Welsh Society, members were joined by friends from the Scout Fellowship0 for an evening outing organised by Michael Rourke. On a beautiful, sunny evening, they enjoyed a trip over the Blackdowns into Devon, through Hemyock, Dunkeswell, Honiton and Ottery St Mary with a delicious meal in Broadclyst on the way back.
THE last month of Taunton Stamp Club's 63rd season was an extremely busy one. Firstly Les Jobbins, a well-known Netherlands Philately expert from Reigate, visited the club and presented Netherlands Post during the Second World War.
IN 2006 after many months of hard work the Hambridge & Westport Village Plan was published. Most significant among these results was the concern of 97% of residents over the lack of safety on the main road throughout the Village particularly speeding traffic.
THE meeting of Taunton District Scout Fellowship on May 6 was listed in the programme as a workshop for the designing and making of special birthday cards, and was to be led by Jane Reed.
WI: Rachel Renfree, the president, opened the May meeting with thanks to those who made cakes and manned the WI stall at the Milverton Street Fair, £160 was raised, part of which is to go to the Victoria Rooms and part to the WI speaker fund.
