MR David Gill, president/chairman of Rowbarton Friendship Association, welcomed 75 members to the meeting at St Andrew's Hall, on Thursday, May 1. Apologies were received from 12 members and birthday greetings were sung to eight members.
ON Tuesday, April 8 at 7.30pm the Ladies Club held its monthly meeting in the village hall when Lynne Davies welcomed the guest speaker, Sue Bridger, who gave a demonstration of microwave cookery. The lemon curd, stuffed chicken breasts and meringues, which she made were raffled and taken home by the lucky winners.
GETTING UP really early has never been one of my stronger points, so, as yet, I have not been out and about listening to the dawn chorus. I suppose you can't really count the birdsong I have heard from beneath the duvet as the sun peeks over the horizon.
THE Taunton Hard of Hearing Club began their meeting on May 1 with their A.G.M. This was followed by and quiz and tea before the speaker arrived. George Williams is an Oxfam volunteer who has recently returned from Nicaragua. Oxfam has been working in some of the most inaccessible regions after hurricane Felix. People had had to walk for up to three days to collect the 40kilo sacks of food that were being distributed. They were also giving help with simple projects such as how to cure trees with cocoa tree virus and demonstrating the importance of providing shade with a few trees for dairy cattle.
WI: The Resolutions meeting held on May 1 was well attended. The topics to be put to the Government were explained in detail by Sue Little on The Practice of Bottom Trawling by Fishermen' and Liz Tucker on The Inappropriate Imprisoning of the Mentally Ill' . The president, Pam Parry recorded good support for both resolutions after a lively debate by the members.
THE AGM of the Old Huish Association was held at The Richard Huish College, when the president/chairman, David Gill, warmly welcomed those present - some had travelled long distances.
