WI: Despite a lower than usual attendance, the May meeting was a very busy one, and after the distribution of birthday posies to several members, president Norma Austin, gave a brief account of the recent Roadshow meeting at Wheddon Cross, which several Minehead members had attended.
MEMBERS of the Minehead Amnesty International Group were delighted to hear the news on April 30 that a woman detained in inhumane conditions in a prison cell at Malabo Central Police Station for over four months had been released. She had never been charged and was forced to share with over 70 male detainees, with no personal privacy.
WHAT better time of year or way for all the family to explore Somerset's lovely countryside - and keep fit. Legs Explore is a special group of the Ramblers' Association offering adventures for children and parents and suitable for children of around three or more to Leg It.
THE new chairman of Minehead Evening Townswomen's Guild, Mrs Ann Grieve welcomed president, Mrs Anne Luttrell and members to the April meeting in the Church Hall, Bancks Street.
WI: April is a busy month this year for the group. At the meeting on April 3 members discussed the resolutions to be put before the AGM of NFWI in June when Mrs Ann Smith will the group's delegate in Liverpool. Plans are also being made for the 90th birthday celebration party on May 1. It is hoped that as many past members as possible, as well as members invited from other local WI's will join in for a special, social afternoon. It will be held at Danesfield Common Room at 2pm. There is also the annual outing in June.
