WHILE doing research on my mother's side of the family tree, I have been told that there was possibly a connection between her, Winifired Bessie Williams, nee Gilbert of Cossington, and the families of Goodland, who were sometimes boatmen or ferrymen, bringing goods down the River Parrett, from Bridgwater to Moorland, Fordgate, Northmoor Green and even further down river towards Taunton.
They (Goodlands) lived in the Fordgate areas. Perhaps there is a reader of your newspaper who remembers these boatmen and perhaps even Winifred? I do not have a picture of my mother and any news would be welcome. All replies received in confidence and treated as such.
