ANN Francis, of Taunton, has received a Commendation for Meritorious Service marking 25 years with the Army Cadet Force.

Mrs Francis, who received her award from the Lord-Lieutenant of Somerset, Lady Gass, at The Bishop’s Palace, Wells, began her ACF involvement after spotting an advert for volunteers in the Battalion Headquarters Office, in Taunton.

“I enjoyed it and have been there ever since,” she said.

She gradually increased her involvement until becoming permanent administrative officer and also took on a uniformed role as Staff Sergeant Instructor.

She helped organise the cadets’ involvement in the Nijmegen long-distance march in the Netherlands.

The Wells ceremony included the appointment of young people as the Lord-Lieutenant’s Cadets for the next year, which includes attendance at several official engagements.

Representing the Taunton area are Joshua Stickland, aged 17, of the Combined Cadet Force, King’s College, Taunton, and Anthony James, also 17, of Wellington School CCF.
