WE Somerset folk aren't an odd lot - honest.
But looking at the most popular words the county's children used in a competition might make you wonder.
Social media, the Ebola epidemic and the First World War are just some of the things that have influenced British children’s creativity and use of language over the last year, says a report published today by the Oxford University Press.
Following OUP’s analysis of the 120,421 entries for the 2015 BBC Radio 2 Chris Evans Breakfast Show’s 500 WORDS short story competition, a wealth of fascinating insights into the lives of British children and the imaginative ways in which they use English have emerged.
And someone took the time to discover that the most popular word in Somerset was 'thumbs'.
Here is the top ten list.
1 thumbs.
2 carnival.
3 hounds.
4 baths.
5 warp.
6 orchard.
7 sparrow.
8 casino.

And just to show that we are very different from our cousins across the border in Devon, here are their top ten words.

4 span.
5 ponies.
6 locket.
