A POLICE officer from the Avon and Somerset Constabulary is taking part in the 100 mile RideLondon for the third year next month.

PC Anthony Freeman will be cycling with 20,000 other cyclists on Sunday August 2 through the closed roads of London and Surrey to raise vital funds for children and young people with cancer.

This year will be extra special as PC Freeman will be cycling in memory of his mum, who sadly passed away last December after a short battle with cancer.

PC Freeman, who works on the Sedgemoor South beat, said: I decided to support this cancer charity after my dad was diagnosed with prostate cancer; thankfully he made a full recovery and is still all clear today.

"It's hard for anyone seeing a loved one suffer this terrible disease but even harder to see a young person going through it.

"This is why I have chosen to raise funds for CLIC Sargent. It is also a very special year for me as I will be riding in memory of my mum."

Since joining ‘Team CLIC Sargent’ in 2013, Tony has raised nearly £3,000 for children and young people with cancer which is amazing.

A spokesman for the charity said: “We are so grateful for Tony’s continued support and we look forward to seeing him and hopefully many more of you on the day.
