SIXTY-SEVEN properties are without power after a vehicle reportedly crashed bringing down a power pole in Curry Rivel.

The power cable has come down on the A378 on the Taunton side of Curry Rivel, causing traffic disruption.

Police are reporting slow traffic and Western Power have been called out to the scene near Stoney Lane.

An Avon and Somerset Police spokesman said: "The road is currently unsuitable for heavy goods vehicles."

A spokesman from WPD said: "We had a call at 10.40am that there was a snapped pole on the road. It was affecting 22 customers at that time.

"At about 1pm we had to switch the power off for 45 more customers for safety reasons while we work on the pole.

"We have to excavate the existing pole, get the new pole there, install it and line up all the cables.

"We are expecting power to be back on around 6pm."
