AN Avon and Somerset Police officer has been jailed for 20 weeks for harassment.

PC John Mizen admitted one count of harassment (without fear of violence) at Bristol Crown Court.

He was released as he has already served that time on remand.

The incident took place when Mizen, who was based at Bristol, was off duty and he was suspended after his arrest.

He is still currently suspended.

The force's head of professional standards Superintendent Richard Corrigan said: “This is a serious offence involving a police officer.

“We, along with the public, expect the highest level of professionalism and conduct from all officers and staff at all times.

“Now the criminal proceedings have come to a conclusion, the misconduct process will begin immediately.

“It would, therefore, be inappropriate for me to comment further at this time.”
