A SECOND arrest has been made in connection with a collision in Shepton Mallet in which a pedestrian died.

A 28-year-old man was found lying on the A37 Whitstone Road, near the Cannards Well pub, at around 5.50am on Sunday (October 29). Police believe he was involved in a collision shortly after leaving the Westfest music event.

Senior Investigating Officer DI Richard Horsfall said: “I’d firstly like to express our sympathies to the victim’s family who are devastated at his loss.

“I have a dedicated team working tirelessly to try and provide answers to them. They continue to be supported by a dedicated family liaison officer.

“Our inquiry is continuing and an 18-year-old man arrested earlier this week has been released under investigation.

“We have arrested a second person – also an 18-year-old man from Gloucestershire – on suspicion of perverting the course of justice. He’s been released under investigation.

“We’d like to thank the public for their support and response to our previous appeals. We’ve had a number of people come forward as a result.
“The only outstanding appeal relates to a vehicle we believe was in the area at the time. It’s a tipper truck and it would have been heading from Shepton Mallet towards the direction of the Bath and West Showground.

“If you can help identify the driver or occupants of the tipper truck, please call Investigations on 101 and give the call handler the reference number 5217246901.”
