A NEW workshop is coming to Wellington for people to learn how to upcycle furniture.

Autentico Chalk Painting workshops will take place at The Emporium Somerset on January 10, 18, 26 and 31, hosted by Cato Cooper.

The workshop will include the basic techniques of using the chalk paints and how to paint their furniture.

Cato said: “The New Year is the perfect time for people to take up a new skill or hobby and my furniture painting workshops are a great place for them to learn how to upcycle. They can take the skills they learn and use them at home to completely reinvent their own pieces.

“A recent study by a professor at Drexel University in the US found that 45 minutes of creative activity significantly lessens the stress in the body, regardless of artistic experience or talent.

"After the Christmas and New Year celebrations, people can be feeling pretty stressed out and frazzled so these workshops are the perfect place for them to relax and be creative while also learning something new.”

The workshops will cover the basic techniques of using Autentico Chalk Paints and waxes.

Cato will teach attendees how to paint their piece of furniture from start to finish with handouts and tips included.

Cato added: “I will provide wooden boards to attendees with some detailing so that they can try out the different paints and we will cover distressing techniques as well as layering.

"Everyone who comes along will then be able to take their new skills home with them and makeover their furniture.

“Anyone can come along as no experience is needed. They are fun and creative workshops and everyone who attends will receive a 10 per cent discount on paint products.”

The workshops will cost £35 per person.

The price includes all of the equipment needed such as paints, brushes, boards to paint, waxes, an apron, gloves, refreshments and a picture frame to paint and take home.
