TWO Wellington students have received top offers to continue their studies at the UK's best universities.

Charlie Cooper and Sophie Bennett both received an offer to study at an Oxbridge college.

Charlie has received an offer to study classics at Cambridge University and Sophie also hopes to be studying classics at St Hugh's College at Oxford.

Henry Price, headmaster of Wellington School, said: “We are very proud of Sophie and Charlie’s achievement in receiving offers from Oxford and Cambridge. This is not only a reflection of their academic potential, but also a just reward for their hard work and dedication to their studies over several years. The fact that both pupils are extremely busy in numerous other areas of school life makes their success all the more impressive.

“We have a fine tradition of classics at Wellington and have had a number of pupils over the years moving to Oxbridge or Yale to study this rewarding subject. As headmaster, I am delighted that pupils continue to enjoy the challenges presented by ancient languages as well as the richness that comes from a knowledge of the classical world. It is an important part of our curriculum at Wellington and I am delighted that some of our pupils, including Sophie and Charlie have also begun teaching Latin as an after school club at Wellesley Park Primary School.

“At Wellington School, our dedicated and experienced staff work extremely hard to support all our students in their university choices and guide them through the process so their expectations and hopes are realistic and achievable. It is so rewarding for all the staff when these hardworking and talented students receive Oxbridge offers, and I warmly congratulate them on their success.”
