CHILDREN from across Somerset and Devon headed to Wellington Prep School to take part in a spelling bee.
On Saturday, January 28, 12 teams of youngsters competed over seven rounds, involving spelling challenges, countdown conundrums, scrabble games, anagrams and dynamic definitions.
Parents, family members and friends gathered in the hall throughout the morning to watch the children compete. Many confused faces were spotted in the room as the grown-ups tried to figure out the puzzles.
Wiveliscombe Primary School emerged as the winners and proudly held the bee trophy.
A spokesman for Wellington Prep School said: “There were delightful “Yes!” responses when the children got it right, along with “ooohs” and “ouches” from anxious parents.”
“The children thought it was great fun to show their workings on the special paper tablecloths and it was delightful to see the teams working so well together.
“It was a fantastic morning and we are already thinking about next year.”
