MORE than £3,000 has been raised so far after a primary school's Race for Life event.

On Friday the February 10, Beech Grove Primary School, Wellington, students took part in their second Race for Life event.

Last year, the event brought in £7,000 for Cancer Research UK.

Brenda Scott, from the cancer research team, came along to support the event.

She said “It’s brilliant to see people having fun and fundraising.”

The race was held at Wellington Park.

Children decorated flashes that were pinned on their tops and decorated their faces with neon paints.

Pupils in reception classes ran two laps, year one ran three laps, year two ran four laps, year three ran five laps, year four ran six laps, year five ran seven laps and year six completed eight laps of the park.

All fundraising goes to scientists and doctors to help speed up the process of curing the 200 types of cancer.

Children at the school said that they were happy because they were racing for cancer.
