WELLINGTON School has had an offer accepted on a new building that is set to be used for boarding students.

The Grange, in Wellesley Park, is a grade two-listed building originally built as a girls’ school in 1906, that the school hopes will soon become part of its grounds. The sale is still subject to contract but has been sold by Abbeyfield, a charitable housing association.

“We are delighted to have acquired The Grange. It is a beautiful building, which with minimal internal development, will become a first-class boarding house from September 2018,” said Henry Price, headmaster at Wellington School.

“We are seeing a growing interest in boarding at Wellington from UK and international pupils alongside our day pupils. While boarding is not for everyone, I am a great believer in the enriching experience it provides, as well as developing a sense of independence as pupils look to life at university and beyond.

“We already have four houses providing weekly and full boarding at Wellington and it is our intention that The Grange becomes a senior girls’ house for around 20 pupils with the very best facilities as well as pastoral care.

“To have acquired such a wonderful property, just a few hundred yards from the school, will greatly enhance our boarding provision and I hope that it will also be a positive benefit to the wider community.”
