STUDENTS from a Wellington primary school have proved their passion in a project to save the monument.
The students, from Beech Grove Primary School, chose Wellington Monument as their project for the Somerset Children’s Parliament that took place at the end of March where they took third place out of 12 schools taking part. They then delivered their project to Wellington town councillors.
A song about the monument, plus facts and fond memories all formed part of the presentation.
Susan Keates, from the school, said: “They have collaborated with Wellington Museum and Jenny Weston from the National Trust.
“They are very passionate about preserving it for future generations.”
Helen Sharp, project manager for the National Trust, said: “Hearing the children speak so passionately about the monument gives us renewed energy and serves as a valuable and timely reminder of just how important this place is to people.”
