PIZZA bases that keep appearing at a popular Wellington beauty spot are causing distress to wildlife.
Large amounts of what appears to be left over pizza bases have been spotted at The Basins, the large ponds situated off Corams Lane, but it is not known where the pizza has come from.
Lynda Russell-Cairns, secretary of the Basins Volunteer Group, said: “A well-wisher has taken it upon themselves to feed the wildfowl and swans with enormous amounts of bread and pizza bases, whilst the intention is admirable far too much food is being haphazardly thrown into the waters.
“Bread is starchy duck junk food that can clog up the water and potentially damage the environment.

“The recommended feed for ducks is corn, either canned frozen or fresh, duck pellets, lettuce or other greens, frozen peas, rolled oats or instant. Seeds, including bird seed or other varieties and very small amounts of bread.”
