A WELLINGTON band is hosting a event in a Taunton park to raise money for charity.

Wellington Silver Band will be bringing Proms in the Park to Longrun Meadow in order to raise money for St Margaret's Hospice.

The event takes place at 6.30pm on Saturday, July 22.

The band chose the hospice as its charity after its musical director's partner received care there, as well as wanting to help the vital care continue for patients across Somerset.

Geoff Samuel, chairman of the Wellington Silver Band, said: "Our musical director is very passionate to raise funds for St. Margaret’s Hospice as his partner received care within the home and end of life care at the hospice in Taunton.

"The hospice gave excellent medical care and emotional support to the whole family.

"He decided to hold the Proms at St. Margaret’s Hospice to be able to raise funds and give something back.”

The band was established in 1887 and this month marks its 130th birthday.

The members will be playing a range of genres throughout the evening as well as traditional proms pieces.

Refreshments will be available on the night, including a barbecue, bar and ice cream stand.

A raffle will be held on the night with prizes that have donated by businesses in the area.

Parking for the event can be found in Longrun Meadow or limited spaces within the hospice car park.

Guests are asked to bring a deck chair or picnic blanket to enjoy the music.
