A WELLINGTON boy has made it to the final of a BBC singing competition.

Will Hester, 20, who is currently studying at King's College in London, will be on TV on Saturday night represented his university on the show Pitch Battle.

Will, along with eight other students, make up team All The King's Men.  The a capella singing group have made it to the final and are in with the chance of winning the £50k prize money.

The show is presented by Mel Giedroyc, with regular judges Gareth Malone and Kelis who are joined by a different third guest each week.

Judge Mel said: "First and foremost, it is a non-brutal competition.

"There is a £50k prize for the winning group, which is amazing, but this is about the genuine love of what they are doing rather than ‘look at me’ kind of thing.

"That makes a real difference. Also, they all know each other so well and it is like having a bunch of friends and family on stage.

"There is nothing like being on stage, surrounded by the love of your friends and family - I know this from being in a double act for so long."

Will, he went to Wellington School, said: "I'd always done quite a bit of singing at school, and I saw videos of the group and I enjoyed listening to it.

"It's great having music and singing in common with people.

"It's been a really great way to get to know people.

"I feel it's helped me musically as I've gained experience in performing.

"I'm not sure if it will be my career but I'll definitely always have singing in my life as a hobby at least."

Will says the group sing anything as the group has a wide taste in music.  He added:

"We all have quite a different taste in music as we sing a bit of everything.

"Being on TV was surreal but it was an amazing feeling.

"I've had so many lovely comments from people."
