THE ninth annual Welly Boot championship event saw a big crowd enjoy the day - despite changeable weather.

This year's event was opened by Mayor of Wellington, Cllr Gary James, on Saturday, September 9, on the playing fields of Court Fields School.

In addition to the adult and under 10’s welly throwing events, the Romanian Dog Rescue hosted a dog show and dog agility, Wellington Silver Band started off the live music with their junior band and were followed by a selection of live music organised by Lee Edmead and the Wellington Majorettes performed.

Sue White, event organiser said, "We added in another attraction to this year's event - The Minions. They were a fantastic addition to the event and entertained everyone with their dancing, good spirits and photo shoots. The Minions and the crew from Tone FM had a great time throwing off against each other.

"We had the added attraction of 'have a go archery’ which was very well supported.

"We had a fantastic day, the weather was extremely changeable, but it didn't stop the crowds which were more plentiful than we originally thought and everyone seemed to have a wonderful time."

Have-a-go archery, tombolas and a host of stalls kept people entertained throughout the event.

Next year's event sees the competition celebrate its 10th anniversary on September 8.
