A CARE home in Wellington has been rated as “outstanding” by an inspection body.

Chelston Park and Gardens Nursing and Dementia Homes, West Buckland Road, was praised in its latest report by the Care Quality Commission.

Jo Girdler, the homes’ manager, said she is proud of the staff’s high standards of care, professionalism, commitment and hard work.

She said: “Success in a care home is all about the staff group working well together and with other care professionals to deliver the best services.”

The report, available on the CQC website, details feedback from residents, their families and friends.

It stated: “The home continued to provide an outstandingly caring service to people.

“People were supported by a staff team who were happy in their work and who were committed to ensuring people received the best possible care. People and their relatives spoke highly of the staff team.”

The two-day inspection also takes into account the opinions of health-care professionals and the local community.

Simona Ionita, the registered manager at Chelston Park, said: “We receive fantastic support from the local GPs, district nurses and community psychiatric nurses, Somerset Adult Social Care, the Clinical Commissioning Group as well as our local community in Wellington.”

Out of 251 care homes in the Taunton area only seven have an overall rating of outstanding.

Mrs Girdler added: “Very few care providers are rated as outstanding by CQC and it is a testament to everyone’s hard work that Chelston has been recognised.

“It makes it all worthwhile to know we are providing an outstanding service and have our efforts formally recognised.

“We would like to take this opportunity to thank all our residents, families, friends, our team and local health and social care teams for their support which has made this possible.

“We are committed to maintaining and improving standards and look forward to celebrating with our residents, staff and visitors.”
