A BONUS dragon has been released onto the streets of Taunton today.

Following the completion of the highly successful Taunton Deane Dragon Trail on Sunday, most of the trail models have been recaptured and are being cleaned and repaired.

They will be making an appearance at the Quartz arts festival in Taunton later in September and October.

For any dragon fans who are missing the decorated 31 models that were dotted around the Deane, a new one has been unveiled - see the video below to get up close and personal with the dragon.

Commissioned specially for 40 Commando Royal Marines, Cpl Glover is not part of the Taunton Deane Dragon Trail but will reside in orchard shopping centre, along with Proud Heritage, until he joins his cousins at Quartz.

Cpl Glover will then be given to the Royal Marines of 40 Commando.

The bonus dragon is painted in desert and green camouflage and bears the 40 Commando crest and other Royal Marine uniform details.

The unit has helped the dragon team with dragon distribution during the trail.

Taunton Deane Mayor Dave Durdan, who leads the dragon trail project, welcomed the latest fiery recruit to the orchard shopping centre with Maj Chris Hill, of 40 Commando this morning.

Maj Hill said the name had been chosen by members of the unit but the reasons behind it remain a military secret!

He added: "It's a great honour for 40 Commando Royal Marines to receive this dragon from the Mayor and the people of Taunton.

"It cements the relationship between the Mayor, the community and the unit."

Cllr Durdan said: "Although it's not part of the trail, it's great to see another of the popular dragons on our streets. The boys of 40 Commando do an amazing job so we're proud to pay them this tribute."

Some 21 of the trail dragons, not including Cpl Glover, are being auctioned on October 12 - click here for more details.
