A VIDEO clip of a driver parking on the helipad at Musgrove Park Hospital in Taunton has been posted on the internet.

In it, the confused driver is seen stationary on the emergency use-only helipad before performing a U-turn and driving off onto the road - via a pedestrian footpath between vegetation at the site.

It was taken by consultant surgeon Paul Thorpe, who said: "I thought people might be interested to see the latest twist to the parking problems at Musgrove."

A spokesman for Musgrove said: “Parking on the helipad could place lives in danger.

“The helipad is used several times a week for air ambulances to bring the most seriously ill or injured patients to Musgrove.

“We are taking steps to avoid this happening again.”

Probably the same elderly gent who drove along the pavement between the bus shelter and buses in Castle way,he turned towards the Parade, we watched in disbelief, I think he had come from the Castle hotel.

I don't know why people laugh this has done th rounds on Facebook and apparently he parked there for 30 mins. It's one of the strongest arguments for retesting drivers.

This morning at 10.00am driving for a hospital appointment I followed an elderly driver who turned right off the Wellington Road as coming from Wellington drove through the hospital alongside the new building works and then drove straight out of the hospital along Parkfield Drive clearly using this route as a rat run. This needs to be stopped before if becomes a routine

Where has highwood been for the last ten years+. This is already routinely used by hundreds of people daily quite legitimately and sensibly - both ways. Not sure over a number of times whether it does actually work, as it depends on the lights favourably changing at either end.
