AUTUMN’S here and our parks, roads, pavements and gardens have been coated with a coloured spectacle.

But not everyone is enjoying the amount of leaves that have fallen and some traders in the town centre say they have had to clear it themselves to make the pavements safe.

Bath Place trader Catherine Esbester, from Ginger Fig, said: “It’s a never ending task and at our busiest time of the year it is just one more chore to do.

Jane Armour, from Jane Armour Trading, added: “When it rains, the path becomes so treacherous.”

Taunton Deane Borough Council said it is aware that fallen leaves can cause problems in the autumn and would urge people to take extra care, especially if rain or frost has made the leaves slippery.

They said they collects leaves from adopted Highways, footways and public open spaces.

The Council say they have two caretakers in the centre of Taunton, plus a mechanical sweeper, to cover the large pedestrian areas every day.

A spokesman added: “At this time of year windy weather can cause problems by blowing leaves from the trees and scattering them widely and Wessex Water’s recent works in High Street have occasionally made it difficult for the mechanical sweepers to gain access.”

Our photographer snapped the hot-spots for leaves in Taunton including Churchill Way, Fons George, Upper High Street and the Avenue.
