POLICE have confirmed they have CCTV footage showing a man matching Peter Carver's description wading into the River Tone earlier today (January 18).

A spokesman said: "Earlier this afternoon we started a search in an around the river using our underwater search team with assistance from the fire service's rescue boat and assistance from search and rescue teams.

"The search will continue as long as possible this evening and then continue tomorrow."

Anyone who has further information is asked to contact Taunton police on 101.

FEARS are growing for an 89-year-old man who is missing from Taunton.

Police are searching for Peter Carver who is thought to have gone missing this morning (January 18) in the Eastgate Gardens area, on Tancred Street. He was last seen at 7.30am today.

He is described as a white man, about 5ft 9ins tall with white hair and he wears glasses. It is thought he may be wearing slippers and a light coloured, possibly blue quilted-type gilet or waistcoat.

He has a large plaster on the right hand side of his head and is often seen shopping in Taunton town centre.

Officers are appealing for home owners to check their sheds, outbuildings and garages as Mr Carver may have sought shelter from the poor weather.
