Blockbuster in Taunton will close
STAFF at Blockbuster in Taunton have been made redundant after bosses at the movie and video games rental store announced closures.
The store is one of 164 victims across the country that will shut down as part of a phased closure by administrators Deloitte.
The outlet will run promotional offers and customers will be told the date of closure in advance so that they can return rental items beforehand.
The County Gazette announced last month that the store had been earmarked for closure and administrators confirmed those fears today (February 13).
Lee Manning, Joint Administrator, said: “We have continued to review the performance of individual stores since our appointment a month ago and have concluded that further closures are necessary in order to restructure the company for sale.
“We would like to thank the company’s employees for their support and professionalism during this difficult time and we are also grateful for the continued support of customers.
“We are in discussions with a number of parties interested in purchasing all or parts of the business and will update on progress in due course.”
The number of job losses is unknown at this stage.
