TWO Somerset pubs have won coveted national awards.
The Farmers Arms at Combe Florey won the ‘Best Cellar’ title at the BT Sport Great British Pub Awards 2013, while The Maypole Inn at Thurloxton was named Britain’s ‘Best Community’ pub.
Both pubs had already won the South-West regional titles and competed against five other regional winners for the overall gongs.
Pat Vincent, who runs The Farmers Arms, said: "We are delighted to have won the title – it is great recognition for the pub and the staff who work here and I am sure that our customers will be thrilled too."
The judges praised the way Jo and James Lowe, of The Maypole Inn, have opened up a forgotten pub to the local community and given them a social hub.
The pair were also "delighted" at the recognition.
