STAFF at Taunton’s Phones 4u shop are due to be briefed about the future of their jobs and the business this morning after it went into administration.
The announcement follows network operator EE’s decision to join Vodafone in cutting ties with Phones 4u, leaving it without a single operator to work with.
That has placed more than 5,500 jobs at risk at Phones 4u’s 550 stores across the UK, including the one in Fore Street, Taunton.
All the shops are due to be closed today while staff are given a briefing.
Phones 4u chief executive David Kassler said as the news emerged yesterday: "Today is a very sad day for our customers and our staff.
"If the mobile network operators decline to supply us, we do not have a business. A good company making profits of over £100 million, employing thousands of decent people has been forced into administration.
"The great service we have provided should have guaranteed a strong future, but unfortunately our network partners have decided otherwise. The ultimate result will be less competition, less choice and higher prices for mobile customers in the UK."
