YOU could soon buy stamps or pick up your pension at a convenience store in Taunton’s Station Road – seven days a week.

Customers can have their say on proposals to relocate the current Post Office outlet 50 metres down the road from 32 Station Road to Station Road Convenience Stores.

If the move goes ahead, the post office will open at 6.30am from Monday to Friday and at 7am at the weekend, closing at 10pm every day.

That is 61 hours and 30minutes a week more than at its current location, where it operates from 9am six days a week, closing at 5.30pm Monday to Friday and at 12.30pm on Saturdays and not opening on Sundays.

The proposed facility would offer Post Office products and services from two open plan tills at the shop counter rather than from separate screened counters.

Regional Network Manager Will Russell said the move is part of a major modernisation programme across the Post Office network giving customers the chance to do business through longer opening hours and in a modern open plan environment.

He added: “We understand how important having a Post Office is to residents in Taunton and we are confident that this new modern branch will meet the needs of the local community and secure services for the future.

“The modernisation is part of a major investment programme, the largest in the history of the Post Office and makes a commitment to no more branch closure programmes.”
