A FIFTH cat is fighting for its life following the death of four other cats in the same street from anti-freeze poisoning.

Kay Southway's seven-year-old pet Nelson is going home today (Thursday, October 16) after spending four days on a drip at the vets.

The family have been told the prognosis is not good as the animal has suffered kidney damage.

"He was just moping around and not eating, so we took him to the vet on Monday and he's been on a drip since," said Mrs Southway, who faces a vet's bill of £1,000.

Tests have not proved conclusive, but it seems likely that Nelson was also poisoned with anti-freeze.

She added: "It's a case now of seeing if his body can cope, to see if he can survive.

"I want to warn other cat owners in the area that this is going on.

"It looks as though it's deliberate - five cats poisoned in one small street is too much of a coincidence to have been accidental."

Amanda Powell and neighbour Flora Bridges both had to have two cats put down after they were poinsoned with anti-freeze - as reported on this website and in the Somerset County Gazette.
