FIREFIGHTERS called to a fire at a home in Frog Lane, Durston, called for a back up crew as the chimney was well alight on their arrival.

The bedroom and roof space of the building were heavily smoke logged during the incident yesterday, Tuesday, February 24, afternoon shortly after 4pm.

A Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: “Fire crews gained access to the chimney from the roof and the hearth using chimney rods, one hose reel jet, ladders for access and safety at height equipment.

“They had to knock away plaster in the upstairs bedroom to expose further hot spots within the roof space using a thermal image camera.”

The cause of the fire is believed to be accidental.
