TESCO has officially settled its U-turn on building a superstore on the former Sedgemoor Splash site in Bridgwater this week, with all parties reportedly "satisfied" with the severance deal.

Plans to build on the Northgate site have now been officially shelved as Sedgemoor District Council, Somerset County Council and Tesco Ltd came to a formal agreement on a severance package.

However, the councils are refusing to reveal how much Tesco has paid them following the pull-out in January.

Somerset County Gazette:

WHAT does the future hold for the site of the old Sedgemoor Splash swimming pool now Tesco has gone?

A Sedgemoor District Council spokesperson said: "The terms of the agreement are confidential between the parties but include full recovery of the Council’s costs and retention of the land.

"Therefore, we cannot comment on the compensatory package beyond saying that all parties are satisfied."

The Council added that the payment would contribute towards paying off the £5.3 million loan it took out to build the new swimming pool at Chilton Trinity School.

Somerset County Council which part-owns the land, has also the terms of the pay-off.

Sedgemoor District Council said it would now look to reassess and then consult how the site could be used in the future.
