A FORMER shop has been made into four flats for affordable social rents that will be part managed by tenants.

The outlet in East Reach, Taunton, which includes a financial services hub on the ground floor, is the first converted by Somerset Co-operative Community Land Trust.

CLT secretary Alex Lawrie said: “Our partners in Taunton Association for the Homeless tell us that there is no shortage of people in need of affordable social rentals.

“Local Housing Associations are doing their best but it's time for local people to organise and invest in extra Properties.

“Anyone who is either in housing need, or at risk of homelessness, should certainly consider applying.

“We are particularly looking for people who would relish the extra rights, responsibilities and opportunities of being a member of the co-operative.”

Application forms are available by e-mailing landtrust@somerset.coop, Facebook messaging somersetcclt via www.somersetcclt.org.uk or picking one up from TAH at 90 East Reach.

Vicki Ross, CLT director, said “I feel really proud that we have made good use of what was a desolate and neglected listed building.

“Now the whole building is going to be fully used to help local people.”
