A MYSTERY Good Samaritan made sure Friday the 13th was anything but unlucky for a group of youngsters with learning disabilities when he picked up their restaurant bill.

The man was so impressed with how teachers and carers looked after the group from Selworthy School, Taunton, that he dipped into his pocket as a Red Nose Day treat.

The class, who were all dressed up for Comic Relief, had gone to the O’Bridge, on Priorswood Road, to practice eating out and choosing food from the breakfast menu.

Deputy head teacher Mark Ruffett said the class staff were stunned when they asked for the bill, only to discover it had already been settled.

The manager said someone else had already paid the £52.50, saying, ‘Happy Comic Relief Day’.

When Selworthy staff approached him to say thank you, he congratulated them on the “good job” they do, but declined to leave his details.

Mr Ruffett said: “Kindness comes in many forms.

“This gentleman kindly bought a gift (of breakfast) for the class of learners, but it was much more than that.

“Selworthy School needs the support of our local community because we spend so much time learning life skills within it.

“This is one of many examples of generosity of spirit that we regularly encounter and I felt it was a good opportunity to say ‘thank you’.

“Thoughtfulness can present itself in a variety of ways and we are repeatedly grateful for this.”
