OVER £2,300 was donated last week to the Somerset Unit for Radiotherapy Equipment (SURE) charity which equips the Beacon Centre cancer unit at Taunton’s Musgrove Park Hospital.

It included £30.13 from the collection pot at Londis, Bridgwater; £171.34 from the Crafty Ladies at a craft stall at the Beacon Centre; and a £225 anonymous donation.

There was £1.60 in 5p coins from Trevor Warner; £120 from Maurice and Jean Lynham given by family and friends at their 40th wedding anniversary party instead of presents; and £173.35 from Jennie Dinsdale and June Best, who knitted and sold knitted chicks with cream eggs in the Beacon Centre.

The collection tin at Central Hair Studio, Bridgwater, contained £105.51; Wellington Aqua Social Group handed over £136.50 in 5ps; there was £52.01 in the collection pot at the café in the Beacon Centre.

Phil Mansell’s salsa night raised £87; commission from a book sale at Debenhams Bedford House offices realised £33.20; there was £52 in 5ps from Anthony Pollard and family; and a quiz night and raffle at the Merry Monk hosted by Mark ‘The Beast’ Labett, from TV’s The Chase, raised £900.

There was also £235.47 from two weeks’ collections from the Beacon Centre, including £185.65 in 5ps, 80p of which was from Kari and Rosemary, and £51 which was from Simon and Kim Scotting, of Ilminster.

The weekly total of £2,323.11 takes the amount raised for SURE since it linked up with the County Gazette to £519,475.49.
